Organic Gardening: growing great vegetables throughout the year (#3)
These two 4-hour workshops are intended for beginning and more advanced home gardeners looking to gain food self-sufficiency. By applying some basic gardening principles you’ll learn how to grow more food on less land without an aching back so that you can eat from your garden every day of the year. Your instructor is Dan Oostenbrink, market gardener at Local Harvest Market in Chilliwack. Dan will help you gain confidence in the garden. He’s passionate about organic growing and a gives a practical approach for gardening that maximizes your gardens productivity—and you’ll never pull a weed again.
Each workshop includes a hands-on component and a tour of our market garden.
Workshop 1 – (APRIL 14: 9 am – 1 pm) Planning and preparing. No-till mulch gardening explained. Succession planting. What to transplant and what to direct seed. Growing healthy transplants.
Workshop 2 – (MAY 12: 9 am – 1 pm) Dealing with pests. Growing herbs and flowers. Everything you need to know about tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplant and melons. Fall and winter gardening.
Note: Workshops cannot be taken individually.
$100 for both sessions. This price includes 200 starter plants (lettuce, kale, broccoli, tomatoes, peppers etc.) that you’ll be able to plant in your own garden.
