Gardening Course: Group 2 / Session 2

These two four-hour workshops are intended for beginning and more advanced home gardeners looking to gain food self-sufficiency. By applying the principles of organic gardening you’ll learn how to grow more food on less space so that you can eat from your garden every day of the year.

The first session will be held at Local Harvest Market where we’ll focus on :

• BUILDING SOIL FERTILITY THROUGH COMPOSTING

• THE SOIL FOOD WEB

• THE NO-TILL, MULCHING GARDENER

• PLANNING FOR A CONTINUOUS HARVEST

• PLANNING WHAT TO GROW AND WHEN

Our second session will be hosted by Jack, owner of Fruits and Shoots Plant Farm. Here we’ll cover the topics:

• DEALING WITH PESTS

• INCLUDING PERENNIAL EDIBLES AND FLOWERS IN YOUR GARDEN

• GROWING TOMATOES, PEPPERS, EGGPLANT AND CUCUMBERS

• VERTICAL GARDENING

• EATING YEAR ROUND: FALL AND WINTER GARDENING

Dan, market gardener at Local Harvest, is your lead instructor. Dan is passionate about organic growing and a gives a practical approach for gardening that maximizes your gardens productivity—and you’ll never pull a weed again.

Jack will focus most heavily on growing perennial edibles and plants that attract beneficials.

Included in the course is 150 seedlings that you’ll be able to plant in your own garden.

IMPORTANT: CHOOSE THE TWO DATES THAT WORK FOR YOU.

Each workshop has TWO four-hour sessions (8 hours total), the first in March and the second in April. You need to attend both. For example, if you sign up for March 18 (Session 1 on the 3rd Saturday in March), you'll automatically be signed up for April 15 (Session 2 on the 3rd Saturday in April).

Session 1 (March sessions) will be at Local Harvest. Session 2 (April sessions) will be at Fruits and Shoots.
